New portfolio, next chapter

Updates —

It’s been 10 years since the last revamp of my portfolio—10 years without a proper mobile version. Yup, I was still inviting people to “check my website on a larger screen” just two days ago… And it had been approximately 7 years since the last fresh project update.

Old times

I have to say, I’m a bit nostalgic about ditching this good old 2015 vintage as it served me really well. It gave me tons of visibility, won a few awards, and brought me enough traction as a young designer to get interviews at fancy agencies and well-known companies.

I designed that first version when I left UZIK, and it was coded by none other than the incredible Bruno Simon (yes, the guy with a tiny—and very cute WebGL car on his portfolio).

So yeah, it was great, but 10 years for a portfolio is enormous (should we call it a record?), and a revamp was badly needed to catch up with today’s standards.

New beginnings

And now here we are—finally, with a fresh new, responsive version.

I poured a lot of time into it—at least 12 major iterations, and it was—as usual, a tough exercise of self-introspection: how should I present myself to the world, to fellow designers, to clients and prospects?

The first realization was that I wanted to reposition myself, to be more explicit about what I do and who I am—hence the “Multidisciplinary Designer”. I also wanted my portfolio to be more talkative and more reflective of my craft. I wanted it to have a soul—not just be a transparent frame for my work.

As designers, we often hear how important it is to explain the process behind our work—to help others understand how we solve problems, how we think, and the reasoning behind particular solutions. As freelancers now, we also hear how important it is to develop a personal brand—to have a voice of our own...

So, I built this V2 and crafted my new identity with all that in mind.

I now have Services and Profile pages, Work and Notes sections, and even a Search, an Index, and a Lab!

The case studies are a bit more complex, with context and outcome sections, key numbers, testimonials, and an average of 12 slides—fast enough to browse, but not too light. My all-time work is also listed in the Index (already 12+ years), with sliders to browse the projects I found interesting but that didn’t quite deserve full-size case studies. And finally, I now have a Lab where I can post UI and motion experiments!

On the personal brand side, I’ve been working with my life partner, Vasilisa Ganakova—a very talented Photographer and Art Director (yes, I’m lucky), and Natalie Turnbull—a terrific Set Designer. We developed a three-level content hierarchy: dark background assets for fundamental content (main cover, portraits, etc.), backlit assets to illustrate pages and sections of the portfolio, and a more classic black-and-white treatment for lifestyle content.

These assets will also form the foundation of my communication—particularly on social media, where I plan to be much more active, with at least two posts per week that will cover a large variety of topics, from new clients and projects to work in progress and experiments...

The rest of the art direction and UI is meant to be remarkable—yet not too much, so each project’s identity can live on its own, without interference. I used the Arizona Flare and the Favorit from Dinamo, combined with mockups from Directory. I also had help from Thomas Zitrone and Jonas Deprund on copywriting and motion design.

To finish, on the technical side of things, I once again had the chance to work with my sparring partner Antoine Vinial, who did stunning, pixel-perfect work using our now-classic stack: Sanity + Vercel.

And that’s pretty much it—I’m really happy with this new version, and I hope you guys will like it!

A huge thank you to my beta-testers friends, colleagues and clients who took the time to write down a testimonal, and to the team/little village that helped build this V2 (all names in the credits).

Stay tuned here—I’ll post new work regularly and even try to blog a little (oh boy…) Otherwise, I’ll see you on Instagram and LinkedIn—I hope you like dog pics!
